Kenneth Eugene Zimmerman, 83, of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024 at his home. He was born on January 11, 1941 in Boonville, Missouri, the son of Richard and Elizabeth Zimmerman.
Kenneth graduated from Boonville High School in 1959. He entered the United States Navy and served his country from 1959 – 1963 aboard the U.S.S. Lexington Aircraft Carrier.
Kenneth's hands throughout his life were never idle and he had an amazing work ethic. Some of his many jobs in his life included: working at Guy's Potato Chips, a bread truck driver for Wholesome Bakery, and worked as an apprentice at Hampton Painters. He worked as an Electrician and building maintenance for the City of Columbia for many years until his retirement. After retirement he continued doing maintenance for the Columbia Police Department Regional Training Center part time.
Ken had a full life and he loved dancing, float trips and music when he was young, then as he settled into retirement he enjoyed camping with his family, including every year at the Missouri State Fair. He was fondly "PaPa" to many. He cherished his time with loved ones. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his son, Timothy Zimmerman of Columbia; daughters: Candace Zimmerman-Palmer and Bethany Zimmerman (Brad Hall) all of Columbia; grandchildren: Lauren and Boen Zimmerman, Andrew, Madison, and Lucas Palmer, Logan, Connor and Vinny Hall, Anthony Logan; sister Dorothy O'Brien; step sons: Mike, Kirk, and Doug Grindstaff; and many step grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Emma; siblings: Georgie Zimmerman, Billy Zimmerman, Benny Zimmerman, Margaret Dodson and step son Gary Grindstaff.
Friends and family will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Parker-Millard Funeral Service with a Memorial Service to follow at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The National Down Syndrome Society, 1155 15th Street NW, Suite 540, Washington, DC 20005.

Kenny was a lifelong friend; I can't remember not knowing him. We grew up together on LeRoy Street playing games and roaming the neighborhood. He drove me around for two years before he graduated from HS. We may be the only two persons to ride a motorcycle across the MKT Railroad bridge across the Missouri River, and he sold me that motorcycle in 1959 to buy a bigger one. We didn't stay close as adults, but stayed in touch. I last spoke to him a few months ago. I'll miss him.
