Raymond “Kenny” Quinn, 80, of Gastonia, passed away at Caromont Regional on September 5, 2023. He was born November 11, 1942, in Gaston County, to the late Robert Marion Quinn and Etta Biggers Quinn.
He is preceded in death by brothers, Bobby Quinn, Donald Quinn, Clyde Quinn; sister, Betty Allen.
Kenny was inducted on October 14, 2011, into the North Carolina A.S.A Softball Hall of Fame. His career highlights include, a 50-time all-tournament pick, a 12-time batting champion and a seven-time all-state selection playing for 14 different teams in Gaston and Cleveland counties. He was an enthusiastic member of the “Iron Dukes” for over 30 years.
For 12 years, he served as the coach of the Hunter Huss girls softball team, where his guidance touched the lives of numerous young athletes. In addition to his work with the high school team, he generously shared his knowledge by coaching several girls open league teams, youth basketball, and little league teams. His commitment was evident in all aspects of his life. He had a passion for mentoring others. Kenny’s generous spirit paired with his warmth and kindness made him a wonderful mentor.
Prior to his retirement, Kenny worked at American Efird, LLC in the maintenance department. He had 15 consecutive years of perfect attendance.
Kenny always said, “I’ve been blessed more than you’ll ever know.” In reality he was the one who was a blessing. His love for others was extravagant. His main goal was to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ with his life. He did this by loving and caring for others. He was the most loving and caring husband to Pam for 38 years. His love knew no bounds.
Let us remember to celebrate the incredible life he lived and the immeasurable impact he made during his time with us. May his soul rest in peace with Jesus knowing that he has left behind a beautiful legacy of love, mentorship, and devotion.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Pam Quinn; brothers, Lewis Quinn, Howard Quinn (Margaret), Ronnie Quinn (Rhonda); sister, Margie Costner (Andrew); numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
