Kent Hunter Runolfson born December 31, 1941 in Spanish Fork, Utah to Fern Hunter and Loyal Boas Runolfson. He attended school in American Fork, Utah where he was active in athletics being voted "Mr. Touchdown" in football and was state champion wrestler in his weight class.
He attended CSU '60-'61 then returned to American Fork to earn money to continue his education at BYU. He met and courted Janeen Liston of Pleasant Grove, they married January 28,1966. Kent graduated from BYU in math and science secondary education and went on to complete his Master's Degree. He was certified as a farrier at Provo Technical College while teaching at Juab High School as well as coaching football and wrestling. After 3 years of teaching for Juab School District he transferred to the Alpine School District and taught at Orem High School for the next 15 years, introducing computers into the classroom. He and his family resided in the Manila area of Pleasant Grove and raised Arabian horses and coached horse 4-H. First Kent joined the American Fork men's riding club then later he and Janeen joined the Roughouts riding club and served on the Strawberry Days rodeo committee over the youth horse show. Kent coached wrestling and football at both Juab and Orem high schools.
In 1984 Kent and his family moved to Monroe, Utah to farm, ranch and teach at South Sevier High School. He continued coaching football for 5 years then took up refereeing. Kent retired from South Sevier in 1995. Retirement needed supplementing so he got his CDL and drove for construction and OTR for about 5 years. Their daughter's divorce created a need for her three children to have a home so Kent went back to teaching at Oquirrh Hills middle school before retiring permanently to his gentleman's ranch in Monroe.
Kent is survived by his wife of 58 years, his daughter Kenja (Glen) Fealy in West Valley, UT and his son Rhett (Amie) Runolfson, Manti, UT, 12 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. 5 siblings, Vala Jeanne Runolfson, American Fork, Vell Loyal (Claudia) Runolfson, North Ogden, Arlen Chris (Judy) Runolfson, Alpine, Muriel (Tom) Cook Highland, Debra (Michael) Aston, American Fork.
He was preceded in death by his father, Loyal Boas Runolfson, his mother, Fern Hunter Runolfson, and his sister, Colleen (Larry) Caldwell.
