Kerma Jo Morris, a vibrant soul who lit up every room, passed away on October 2, 2025, at the age of 73 in Washington, Indiana. Born on June 17, 1952, in Gibson County, Indiana, to Kermit and Barbara (Masters) Morris, Kerma’s infectious spirit and zest for life left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

A proud 1970 graduate of Kirkwood High School, Kerma married her sweetheart, Glen Wehrsten, in November of that same year. Though Glen preceded her in death, their love story remains a cherished chapter of her life. Kerma’s professional journey was one of dedication and warmth, serving 26 years in many roles at Walmart, where her kindness and problem-solving prowess made her a favorite among colleagues and customers alike. She later brought her caring touch to the environmental service department at Daviess Community Hospital, where she worked until her well-earned retirement.

Kerma’s life was a tapestry of passions and joys. She savored the simple pleasures of a steaming cup of coffee, peanut butter, and the laughter-filled moments shared with her grandchildren. An avid reader, baker, and fierce competitor at cards and Scrabble, Kerma brought enthusiasm to everything she did. Whether cheering for her beloved Chicago Bears, enjoying movie nights, bowling with friends, or sipping margaritas with her girlfriends, Kerma lived with a spark that was impossible to ignore. Her love for life was matched only by her love for those around her, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Kerma was preceded in death by her parents, Kermit and Barbara Morris; her husband, Glen Wehrsten; and her infant sister, Pamela Sue Morris. Her legacy lives on through her children, Lisa (Brian) Petty, Matthew (Amanda) Steele, and Dawn (Jerry) Hedrick; her grandchildren, Carley Jo (Michael) Ramsey, Blade Steele, Beowulf "Beo" Steele, Chelsea Renicker, Victoria Steele, and Jacob (Cameron) Hedrick; and her great-grandchildren, Aria Ramsey, Aidyn Hedrick, Benjamin Renicker, Adalynn Renicker, and Marley Hedrick. She is also survived by her siblings, Phillip (Peggy) Morris and Kristie (Robert) Gress, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will carry her memory forward.

A visitation to celebrate Kerma’s extraordinary life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 2020 State Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 1 p.m. Join us as we honor a woman whose love, laughter, and spirit will forever inspire us.
