Kevin Cissell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fern Creek Funeral Home - Louisville on Sep. 30, 2025.

Kevin Cissell, 62, died Sunday, September 28, 2025, due to complications from cancer.

He was born James Kevin Cissell on December 9, 1962, son of Tony and Jeanie Doyle Cissell. Kevin attended St. Gabriel Elementary School and graduated from St. Xavier High School in 1980. He earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural science from the University of Kentucky. Throughout his life, he held a variety of positions in the equine industry.

As a child, Kevin rode horses and competed in barrel racing and pole bending events at horse shows across the state. He also played ice hockey and was on the St. X wrestling team. There was always a dog in the family from the time he was a boy until his death. He loved spending time outdoors and hunting with his father and brothers. Kevin was a great baker and enjoyed making cakes and other desserts for family, friends, co-workers, and the staff that provided his cancer care. He loved to go thrift shopping at Goodwill and had a unique sense of style. Although he was certifiably tone deaf, that didn't stop him from singing along in the car. Kevin was a talented storyteller and proficient in sarcasm.

He was immensely proud of his three beautiful daughters and enjoyed sharing their many accomplishments.

Kevin was preceded in death by his first wife Carla Thornton Cissell. In addition to his parents, Kevin is survived by daughters, Madison, Brooke and Annmarie Cissell; sister, Maria Holmes (Will); and brothers, Tony, Eric and Brett Cissell and nieces, Isabella Cissell and Tori Clemons (Spencer Cox), as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Funeral mass is 10am Saturday, October 4, 2025 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 5505 Bardstown Road.

Visitation is 9am until the time of the service. Reception follows in the loft at St. Gabriel.
