Kevin Keith Keyes, 65, born March 28,1959 in Neptune, NJ died peacefully on hospice care at Ocean University Medical Center in Brick, NJ on Saturday, March 30, 2024. He was raised in a loving home with his parents and siblings in South Belmar/Lake Como, NJ. Following the death of his mother, Kev lived the remainder of his life with his beloved sister, Daisy in Brielle, NJ. He was educated at the Hurley Pond School in Wall Twp and received an honorary high school diploma from Manasquan High School. He worked for many years at the original Shop Rite grocery store on 18th Ave and Route 35 in Wall, NJ collecting the shopping carts and directing cars away from the No Parking Zone. Although at birth the doctors told his parents that he would never walk or talk, Kevin won two first and one third place medal at the Special Olympics under the guidance of his personal host and sponsor, singer Mac Davis in MI. Kev was also appointed as an honorary member of the South Belmar Fire Department and South Belmar First Aid Squad. Kev was a member of First Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church, Belmar.
Kevin was pre-deceased by his parents, Robert James Keyes Sr. and Daisy Carlotta Richardson; three brothers, Gary Justin, Harvey George, Robert James Sr. and wife, Julia Elizabeth, and one brother-in-law, "Poppy Don", Donald Wilson.
Surviving are his sister, Daisy Russell-Wilson of Brielle; two brothers, Steven David and wife Jannifer of Princeton and David Norman of Toms River; three nieces, Andrea Jenkins and husband Michael, Woodbridge, VA, Allison Gladden, Spring Lake Heights, Kristine Gray and husband Rhonden, Cottondale, FL; and four nephews Robert James III and wife Carol of Parkville, Clifford Russell, JR and wife Maryellen of Brielle, Harvey George Jr., Neptune, and Garrett Keyes, NY; a host of great nieces, great nephews, and cousins; in addition to the multitude of people who adored him. Of special mention are his two appointed Aunts, Emily Boone, Lake Como and Barbara Putney, Tinton Falls and BFF, Johnny Downer, Springfield.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 9-10 AM with the funeral following from 10-11AM at ORENDER FAMILY HOME FOR FUNERALS 2643 Old Bridge Rd., Manasquan, NJ 08736. Entombment will immediately follow at Monmouth Memorial Park, Rt. 66 in Tinton Falls. Rev. Dr. James A. Jackson Jr., ThD of First Baptist Church in Belmar will officiate the service.
