Kevin McKinnon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home on Dec. 9, 2025.
Kevin J. McKinnon, of Foxboro passed away peacefully at his home on December 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Boston's South End on September 23, 1952. Kevin was the son of the late Michael F. and Dorothy M. (Malcolm) McKinnon Sr. His family moved to Sharon when he was in the first grade, and he graduated from Sharon High School in 1970. His childhood friendships would last throughout his lifetime.

Kevin spent his summers ironworking with his father and brothers and joined Iron Workers Union Local #7 Boston after high school. Kevin spent a career dedicated to his trade. From apprenticeship to journeyman ironworker, Kevin loved ironworking, especially connecting and erecting cranes, teaching on the job and knowing his sisters and brothers. He had the best views of the city from what he called "his office" on high steel. Stories he could and would tell for hours about people he met and jobs he loved and friends he made. Kevin was a retired Business Agent and proud to be a Lifetime Member of Iron Workers Union Local #7.

Kevin and his wife Susan A. (Garnhum) were married for 55 years. Together they held hands and built a life with care, some cajoling, joy, laughter, and an abundance of love. He was a real girl dad of dolls and football, mud and lipstick. Daughters Stacy McCracken (her husband John) of Bryant Pond, ME, and Erin Terry of Stoughton. Grampy to Emily M. McCracken and Kevin P. Bernard (partner Emily Chisholm), as well as a Great-Grampy to more girls, Sawyer and Carter Bernard. They all brought him immense pride, happiness and awe.
Kevin, being the youngest of ten siblings, is survived by one sister, Dorothy Petroni (Richard) of Walpole. He was preceded in death by his siblings Michael F. Jr. (Mona), Francis X. Sr. (Barbara), Gerald C. Sr. (Dolly), Robert M. (Carol), Denise Anthony (John), Ann-Marie Neault (Eugene), Lorraine DeFelice (Edward), and Patricia M. Durgin (Thomas). Kevins many nieces and nephews, firmly held a place in his heart.

He was a cherished son-in-law of the late Charles and Mary Garnhum and a dear brother-in-law to Sandra Garnhum Liu of California.

May his memory be one of optimism, enthusiasm and helpfulness to others.

May kindness always follow the thought of Kevin.
