Kevin Joseph Powers, 69, of Peacedale, Rhode Island, died on October 9, 2024. He was the husband of the late Irene (Pizzuto) Powers. Born in Roxbury, MA on November 7, 1954, He was the son of the late James and Loretta (Steward) Powers.
Kevin grew up in Stoughton, MA and excelled as an athlete in high school, playing both hockey and football, and he continued to play football in a semi-pro league for several years. He served in the US Marine Corps in the early 1970s. After the Marines, he began a career as a welder and boat builder, working at the Quincy Shipyard, Derektor Shipyard, and Newport Onshore. He retired as a Master Welder and Shipbuilder but continued working as a limo driver and cab driver for several years. He was a dedicated family man, providing a strong presence for his children, grandchildren and great grandchilren, he loved his free time spent with family.
Kevin is survived by his children; Kelly Powers of Prosser, WA, Shawn Powers of Newport, Erin Powers of Middletown, and Audra Fallon-Powers of North Carolina, his two brothers, James Powers of Arizona and Patrick Powers of Pennsylvania, and his beloved grandchildren Carolanne, Kevin Powers II, and Joseph Powers II, and his great-grandchildren, Gian-Vani Rodrigues, Leliah Powers, and Zekia Powers. In addition to his wife, Kevin is preceded in death by a son, Joseph Powers and a grandson Azul Powers.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 4:00-7:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 14 at 11:00am in the Memorial Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow at Middletown Four Corners Cemetery.
