Rev. Kevin Lee Shockley was born in Dover, Delaware, on Tuesday, August 16, 1960, to the late Ethel and Joseph Shockley, Sr. He was the sixth of nine children. Early on Sunday, January 26, 2025, he transitioned to his heavenly home. He was 64 years old.
Kevin (as he didn't mind being called when not in the pulpit) received his childhood education in the Caesar Rodney School District in Camden, Delaware. During those years, he excelled in playing sports and earned numerous accolades in Pop Warner football; Little League baseball; Big League baseball; and high school baseball, football, and wrestling. After graduating high school in 1979, he received a football scholarship to Salem College, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. After a year there, he transferred to Cecil Community College in Northeast, MD, on a baseball scholarship. During the summer, he played baseball in the New Castle, Delaware semi-pro league on the Kent-Sussex Team. He even coached Pop Warner football.
Rev. Shockley's employment history included positions at Caesar Rodney High School in Camden, DE; at ILC, Dover, in Frederica, DE; Playtex in Dover, DE; Stevenson House Detention Center in Milford, DE; Wyoming Millwork in Camden, DE; and, most recently, at Kraft Heinz in Dover, DE.
He accepted Christ as Lord and Savior in the early eighty's and joined Calvary Baptist Church, at its former Route 8 edifice, where he was baptized. While there, he quickly became active, beginning with his service on the Junior Usher Board. As his dedication to the Lord grew, he yearned for more knowledge of God, and he took courses at Calvary Bible Institute (now Calvary Bible College and Seminary), from which he received an Associate's degree in Biblical Studies. Still showing fruit, he was ordained as a Deacon. Later he was licensed in 2001 and ordained in 2003 as a Minister of the Gospel under Apostle Richard Avant. He began teaching Sunday School. Rev. Shockley was a true soldier in the Army of the Lord and involved himself in the Overnight Outreach, where homeless men stayed at Calvary. He also was heavily involved in the Friday night Midnight Outreach from 11PM to 2AM, in an effort to witness to men and women walking the streets during those hours. He also was included on the team that fed men physical food at the Dover Interfaith Men's shelter, as well as the team that brought men and women to Calvary's Jesus rallies. There were many other activities in which Rev. Shockley involved himself, including the New Beginnings group; the Nursing Home Visitation Ministry; and the Youth Ministry. Some will recall that, in the late eighty's, he also played on Calvary's Softball team that won the Church League's Championship more than once. It cannot be overlooked: Kevin also volunteered in the Big Sister, Big Brother program of Delaware. Also, for many years, Rev. Shockley mentored countless young boys and has enjoyed the blessing of seeing them as successful adults.
In 2001, Kevin married Christina Shockley, and God blessed that union with two beautiful daughters (Shanya and Krystyna Shockley). However, he also gained six other bonus children, whom he loved with all his heart and remained friends with their mother.
Rev. Shockley had a heart of gold and really would give his last to someone in need. He was a gentle giant, some would say, as his compassionate heart extended far beyond family. He could be counted as kind, funny, dependable, and trustworthy. He was also very opinionated and would argue his point better than some lawyers. He was a die-hard Miami Dolphins fan to the bone, whether they won or not. However, he just loved watching sports any sport. He enjoyed playing cards for fun and getting together with his buddies and family gatherings. He loved the Lord; he loved his family; he loved his friends; and he loved his church. He was a true "Girl Dad" and adored his daughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents (Ethel and Joe Shockley) and by three brothers (Larry, Jeff, and Baby Eric Shockley).
He leaves to cherish his memory: 2 Daughters: Shanya Shockley and Krystyna Shockley, Dover, DE; 6 Bonus Children: DyVaunte' Bordley, Frederica, DE; Deonika White, Harrington, DE; TaTyona Shockley, Romelo, Ciara, and Aysia (all of Frederica, DE); 4 Sisters: Deborah Anderson and Rev. Karen Shockley, both of Camden, DE; Sonia (Bruce) Grant, Middletown, DE; and Stephanie (Chester) Scott, Felton, DE; 1 Brother: Joseph (Joy) Shockley, Jr., Newville, PA; an Uncle: Benjamin (Terinda) Wisher, Dover, DE; an Aunt: Phyllis Kennedy, Dover, DE; a Sister-in Law: Phyllis (Ronnie) Cannon, Dover, DE; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends, all of whom are too numerous to list.
Sorrowfully Submitted,

My husband coached Kevin during little league and we followed his career. We both loved him. One funny story I remember is at one Friday night football game as Kevin was running for a touchdown, my husband dropped his teeth between the bleachers and started running down the bleachers to recover them. The story ended well as he did find them in perfect condition and Kevin scored. I pray for his family during this difficult time and will keep them in my thoughts and prayers. God bless
