The (almost) perfect role model in business and life #career #kindness #respect #rolemodel #business #community #carecantwait
Last Monday I lost my beloved Dad, Kevin Wall. He was 87, and lived a great life, attested by the flood of heartbroken family and friends who immediately reached out to pay condolences and tell us how much they loved him and would miss him. Just a week later, the NJ lake community where he lived (and I grew up since 5th grade), and served on the board for over 40 years including three times as president, commemorated a special day in his honor.
He was diagnosed with an aggressive metastatic colon cancer, and lasted only five months despite chemo. I stepped away from my career to care for and spend time with him, as my mother has advanced Parkinsons and could not. It was the best decision I have ever made. I don't have any regrets, except that as hard as we tried, my mom and sisters and I couldn't save him.
He set a constant example (even when he was sick), for me, my family, his friends and colleagues through:
Always being there - he was a rock for others, highly dependable, someone everyone always counted on
Putting others first- he was a loyal and unselfish person, always focused on helping others first and solving problems, in business or in life
Keeping his promises - if he said he would do something, he always came through
Treating others always with utmost respect and kindness
Never giving up, always having faith, being optimistic no matter what
Having fun, laughing, bringing joy wherever he went
These lessons are the most valuable gifts he gave me in life. He was the (almost) perfect role model and I was so lucky he was my father. Growing up he always believed in #thislittlegirl, and told me he knew I could excel in whatever I wanted to. That has made all the difference in my life.
