Khin Htay Myint, age 83, of New Bedford, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford after suffering from a cerebral brain bleed. Born in Myanmar, she was the daughter of the late U Khin San and Daw Hla Sein and was the second eldest of five siblings. She grew up in Yangon and ran the sweater manufacturing factory. She married her late husband U Maung Kyin in 1959, and they eventually moved to the United States together in 1997. Khin lived a life full of challenges and triumphs, marked by her unwavering spirit and resilience. She courageously battled health issues including multiple stokes, spine fractures, as well as chronic back, knee, and shoulder pain for many years, yet she never let these hardships define her. With incredible strength and perseverance, she spent much of her time in physical and occupational therapy, demonstrating her relentless will to maintain her independence and continue living life to the fullest. Despite the pain, she stayed strong until the very end, and the persistence she had to recover from multiple illnesses inspired everyone around her. She loved spending time with her loved ones, eating at restaurants, and playing mahjong. Her cheerful disposition was contagious to everyone she met. Khin was also a passionate cook, finding joy in preparing delicious meals for family and friends. Her kitchen was a place where love was served alongside every dish, and the memories made there will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to sit at her table. Her culinary talents not only nourished our bodies but also our souls. A devoted Buddhist, Khin, lived her life guided by principles of compassion, kindness, and generosity. She was deeply committed to doing good deeds and made numerous donations to various causes throughout her life. Her faith and benevolence were evident in all that she did, and she touched the lives of many with her selfless acts. Though she will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing that her legacy of altruism, determination, and love will live on in the hearts of those who were privileged enough to know her. Khin Htay Myint is survived by her daughter Than Than Win and her husband Calvin Cho, son Khin Maung Latt, and his wife San San Win, daughter-in-law Aye Aye Lwin, grandsons Oakar Oo, Chang-Fu Chin, and Chang-Ming Chin, granddaughters May Zin Oo and her husband Aung Paing Soe, May Lwin Oo, and Miranda Cho, great-granddaughter Akari Soe, along with many other relatives and friends.
