Rita Josefina Myint (Dähler) passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, in
Katy, Texas, after a courageous five-year battle with cancer.
Born on August 26, 1937, in Goldach, Switzerland, Rita was raised in nearby St. Gallen, Switzerland, where her family operated a small dormitory-style hotel and restaurant that served students from the local university. As a child, she formed eternal friendships with other children who lived on the same street that endured throughout her life. After completing secondary school, she spent time in Geneva as an au-pair, refining her French language skills before returning home to assist with the family business.
In 1967, Rita met a hotel guest who would later become her husband. She moved to the United States, where she welcomed two children and worked as a logistics coordinator, drawing on her fluency in German and French. In 1979, she returned to Switzerland to care for her aging parents. Professionally, she held roles in the textile industry and later as an executive administrative assistant at Visa and UBS, commuting daily to Zurich by train.
Rita embraced life's transitions with grace, enthusiasm, and curiosity. As her children pursued education abroad, she traveled extensively across the United States, Europe, Central America, the Middle East, and Asia. In 1999, she retired to Las Cruces, New Mexico, drawn by its tranquility, climate, and natural beauty. Later, she relocated to Virginia to be closer to her grandson.
After her cancer diagnosis in late 2019, Rita sought treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center and settled in
Katy, Texas. She lived independently, welcoming friends and family into her home with warmth and gratitude.
Those who knew Rita remember her as selfless and kind with a thoughtful nature, which touched everyone she encountered. With infectious energy, she always prioritized others over herself and approached life with positivity and an open mind that inspired those around her. She never sought material possessions but instead focused on personal interactions that brought her great joy and happiness. Whether offering a listening ear or lending a helping hand, Rita embodied the true spirit of caregiving in every aspect of her life. She was well known for her hospitality and the unforgettable gatherings she hosted. Combining her fabulous cooking skills with her phenomenal organizational abilities, she ensured that everyone's experience in her home was supreme.
Her friends and family were a source of great pride and joy, and she nurtured each relationship with unwavering love and care, providing forgiveness freely, even when unasked. Those who spent time with Rita always felt better about themselves leaving compared to when they arrived.
Rita is survived by her children, Karen (Mohaymen) Sahebzadah and Phillip (Shannon) Myint, and grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew, and Adham. She was preceded in death by her parents Hans and Josefina Dähler and her brother, Alex Dähler.
Honoring her wishes, no formal services will be held. As a final act of selflessness, Rita maintained it would be an inconvenience for others to travel for a short assembly. Instead, her ashes will be scattered in New Mexico, in the places she cherished most.
Rita lived for and through others, touching countless lives with her empathy, compassion, and selflessness. May she rest in eternal peace, and may her memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
