Nancy Mae Grandpre was born in St. Luke's Hospital located in Aberdeen, South Dakota on January 5, 1947 to Lois Clocksin Grandpre and Richard Grandpre. Nancy was their first child with three brothers and a sister arriving in later years.
Nancy grew up in Aberdeen and graduated from Central High School in June, 1965. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Aberdeen's Northern State College in January, 1970. She taught secondary English for a year in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Nancy had been the Yearbook Editor at Central High School during her senior year. On August 16, 1970 Nancy and her yearbook photographer Richard V. Loomis were married at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Rich's years in Seminary and his calling as a Pastor involved several relocations in Illinois and Kansas during the early years of their marriage. Rich and Nancy moved to Katy, Texas in 1974 where Nancy began almost a 35- year career in the Title industry that concluded when she retired from Stewart Title in 2009. Rich served as Senior Pastor at Memorial Lutheran Church, Katy, Texas beginning in 1974 until failing health forced his early retirement in 1988.
Nancy literally traveled the world for at least twenty years after Rich passed away in 1990. She visited over 100 countries preferring to forego the tourist attractions for an up-close experience with nature, native cultures and people. "Being in such a pristine environment was a spiritual experience. I felt I was seeing God's creation as it was the day He turned it over to us. It was very satisfying, as a fellow creature, to be surrounded by nature. I never ate meat again, except for occasional shrimp after this cruise. The bond with creation was that profound."
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Reverend Richard V. Loomis, her parents Richard and Lois Grandpre, her brothers David Grandpre and Steven Grandpre along with her sister Janis St. Martin.
Nancy is survived by her brother James Grandpre and wife Bonnie, sister-in-law Marcella Grandpre, nieces Erica Grandpre and Sarah Grandpre, along with nephews George "Bill" St. Martin and Stephan Grandpre.
Nancy passed away on October 25, 2025 in Katy, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Memorial Lutheran Church, 5810 Third Street – Katy, Texas. Pastor John Davis presiding.
"For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth."
