Khoa Van Nguyen, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at St. Bernards Medical Center. He was born in Ha Trai, Vietnam, on October 10, 1934. He was a devout Catholic throughout his life and was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church since 1975. In 1954, he fled North Vietnam and settled as a refugee in South Vietnam. With the fall of South Vietnam in 1975, he became a refugee once again when he and his family left their country and were sponsored to Jonesboro, Arkansas. True to his devotion, there is a documented photo of him fleeing North Vietnam carrying nothing but a portrait of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He had a passion for poetry, photography, and videography, which he loved to share with family, friends, and everyone he met. He was preceded by the deaths of his wife, Nhan Thi Nguyen; son, Dien Van Nguyen; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Quang Van Nguyen.
Khoa is survived by his children: son, Linh Tuan Nguyen of Arlington, Texas; daughter, Vai George of Cape Coral, Florida; daughter, Nhu Thi Nguyen and her husband, Phu Minh Nguyen of Euless, Texas; son, Tuan Dinh Nguyen of Jonesboro, Arkansas; daughter, Yeu Thi Nguyen of Jonesboro, Arkansas; daughter, Nha Wall and her husband, Stuart Wall of Plano, Texas; and son, Ethan Hoa Nguyen and his wife, Chialin Nguyen of Lynnwood, Washington; and his grandchildren: Peter "Hai", Christopher "Hoang", Nathaniel "Chau", Elizabeth "Huyen", Hudson, Owen, Evelyn, and Cameron.
A Funeral Mass for Khoa will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 1:00 pm with funeral arrangements by Emerson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Two visitations are planned at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The first visitation is Thursday, September 21, 2023, from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm, ending with a Rosary. The second visitation is Friday, September 22, 2023, from 7:30 pm until 9:30 pm, ending with a Rosary. To sign an online guestbook, go to emersonfuneralhome.com.
