Kimberly Ellington Maxon, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully at the home she helped build, surrounded by her loving family, on October 25, 2024.
Born on September 11, 1957, Kimberly was raised in Franklin County, which she proudly called home. She was the daughter of Tom and Virginia Ellington, and was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Dwight Ellington.
Kimberly is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Michael Maxon; their three daughters, Ginny (Baxter) Jones, Skye (Gary) Phillips, and Rivers (Chris) Brown; five cherished grandchildren, Amelia Maxon, Baxter Jones Jr., Hallie Jones, Devere Jones, and Thomas Jones; and her sister, Gina (Bingham) Bragg.
A dedicated educator, Kim earned her Master's degree in Curriculum from MTSU and her Educational Specialist degree in Administration from Tennessee State. She devoted 27 years to teaching at Decherd Elementary and then moved into administration at Huntland Middle School from where she retired. With a deep sense of service to her community, she served on numerous committees throughout her life. Notably, she initiated the county's first preschool program in the 1980s and also taught Adult Basic Education.
Kim had a profound love for reading, long walks, and the great outdoors. Above all, she cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. She was a devout Christian with a deep understanding of His word.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Lymphoma Research Foundation or to St Jude Children's Hospital.
Visitation will be held from 10am-12pm on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 12pm in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Rev. Smokey Oats officiating. Interment will be at University Cemetery in Sewanee, TN. A reception will be held following the interment at the University Social Lodge.
