Kimberly Kay Zimmerman, 61, Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away Monday, June 17, 2024, with her husband and son by her side at Essentia Health in Fargo, ND, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Kimberly Kay Katzke, known to everyone as Kim, was born December 28, 1962, in Minneapolis, MN to Richard and Karen (Hertzberg) Katzke. She grew up in Battle Lake, graduating from Battle Lake High School in 1981. Kim attended University of Minnesota- Morris for two years.
On December 7, 1984, Kim was united in marriage to Brett Zimmerman at First Lutheran Church of Battle Lake, MN. For a short time, they resided in Wahpeton, ND, before moving to Detroit Lakes in 1987. Kim worked at Keith Inwards – State Farm Insurance for over 29 years. Over the last eight years, Kim was employed at R & G Subaru of Detroit Lakes working in the office. The past 1 ½ years, Kim had worked from home for R & G Subaru while battling cancer. Kim loved everyone at R & G Subaru and always said, “They treat me like family”.
Kim cherished time spent outdoors with her husband, Brett and her son, Tyler. All the special moments she shared with family and friends were always close to her heart. She enjoyed gardening, road trips (no matter the distance or destination), shopping with her sister, Renee, and cuddling with her black lab companion, “Kota.”
Kim will be remembered and deeply missed by her husband Brett, of 39 years; son, Tyler Zimmerman; father, Richard Katzke; stepmother, Iris Katzke; sister, Renee (Dean) Wilson; niece, Trista (Dustin) Kitzman; nephews, Trent (Jaci) Wilson & Ryan (Kylie) Wilson; and by many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Karen Katzke.
Visitation for Kim will be Monday, June 24, 2024, at Bakke Lutheran Church, rural Detroit Lakes, MN from 5pm-7pm. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 2pm in Bakke Lutheran Church with visitation one hour prior. Kim will be laid to rest in Bakke Lutheran Church Cemetery.
