In Loving Memory of Kurt Paul Kuenzel, Jr,
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kurt, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather departed from this world on March 6, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and selflessness that will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
Born February 13, 1937 in
Baltimore, Maryland to the late Kurt Sr. and Elva Kuenzel. He lived a life rich in experiences and was devoted to serving others. He was a dedicated husband for 62 years to his late wife Patsy, and together they shared a bond that transcended time. Though she preceded him in death, their love continues to inspire those they leave behind.
As a father of four, Kurt always provided guidance and unwavering support to his children; Katherine Knapick and her husband James, Robert Kuenzel and his wife Michele, Paul Kuenzel, and Mark Kuenzel. He was the world's best grandfather to eight; Steven who has preceded him in death, Elizabeth, Michael, Andrew, Sarah, Ryan, Matt, and Victoria and great-grandfather to four; Henry, Ruby, Oliver, and Sal. They brought him immeasurable joy, and he cherished every moment spent with his growing family.
Kurt served his country with honor retiring as Sergeant Major of the Maryland National Guard after 42 years of service. His dedication extended beyond his military service, as he spent over 40 years working as a biomedical engineer at both Johns Hopkins and later Union Memorial, using his skills to improve healthcare and enhance the lives of others. He would also serve as a loyal employee to Ruck's Funeral home for 21 years.
A pillar of his community, Kurt was known for his generous spirit and willingness to lend a helping hand to those in need. Whether volunteering at the American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of Central Maryland, Habitat for Humanity, or simply offering a listening ear, he touched countless lives with his kindness and compassion. His leadership skills were unmistakable while serving as a volunteer executive with the Maryland Charity Campaign of the United Way. Kurt was also a devoted member of Divinity Lutheran Church in Towson, where he loved being a part of the choir.
Those who knew Kurt best remember him for his infectious smile, quick wit, ability to repair just about anything, and his expansive collection of cartoon ties. His sense of humor could brighten even the darkest of days, and his presence lit up any room he entered. He had a remarkable ability to find joy in life's simple pleasures and encouraged others to do the same.
