Kurt Salgat (63) of Bay City, Michigan passed away surrounded by his loving family in his final moments. He was a man of immense humor and wisdom, cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones. He loved learning new skills. He also loved the people in his life and loved making memories. Kurt was a Music lover, drummer, bass player, sound engineer, light technician, Parrot Head, Pirate, black powder gun enthusiast, Santa, renfest playtron, chain maille weaver, sword collector, home gardener, amateur Pit Master, Skilled barbecuer, nature lover, camper, animal lover, chocolatier, home pastry chef (a gift he got from his mom), Homebrewer, Meade maker, Pyrotechnics Engineer, golfer, Halloweenest, computer geek, motorcyclist, cancer survivor, warrior, and fighter. Kurt was a kind person, a good friend, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and loving husband. He made the world brighter by being in it and will be missed.
The youngest of seven, Kurt was born in Bay City and lived in Caro. He graduated from Akron-Fairgrove High School in 1979. He continued his education an earned his bachelor’s degree from Davenport University in computer networking and business administration. He worked for the Saginaw County Juvenile Home as their computer technician. Kurt moved to Bay City in 1992 and married his wife Cyndi on October 12, 2002. He continued to live in Bay City until his passing.
Kurt is survived by his wife Cynthia "Cyndi" Gaul. He is also survived by Sister Sondra Hadaway-Mellendorf (Salgat) and Milton Mellendorf, Sister Yvette (Salgat) and Keith Kaserman, Brother Jan and Roxanne Salgat, and Brother Todd Salgat. Kurt leaves behind several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends that were family. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Chloe, cats Smokey and Iggy.
Kurt is preceded in death by his father Leland "Bud" Salgat, his mother Ellen Salgat (Damoth), brother Howard Salgat, and brother Robbie Salgat.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Gephart Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Gephart Funeral Home, 201 W Midland Street, Bay City, MI 48706. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Bay County Humane Society.
Kurt disliked suits and formal attire and requested that people come in shorts and Hawaiian shirts, or bright summer cloths.
