L. Kathleen (Rushton) Kenworthy, 99, of Hazelwood, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, April 18, 2025, in the farmhouse where she was born and lived the last 15 years of her life. She was born on January 19, 1926, in Hazelwood, IN, to the late Lloyd Kenneth and Gretchen Fern (Cooper) Rushton.
A proud graduate with the class of 1944 from Clayton High School, Kathleen then found her niche in life as an Executive Secretary beginning her journey at a firm in downtown Indianapolis. Introduced to her future husband, Mac, a newly discharged Marine, the pair fell deeply in love and were happily united in marriage on June 27, 1948. The wife of a farmer, she immediately fell into her role without hesitation, never looking back.
Kathleen continued to follow her niche and devoted several years of service at Public Service Indiana, deservingly retiring in 1983. She was a longtime member of the Monrovia Christian Church, where she played piano, taught several generations of Sunday School students, served as the Sunday School Superintendent, and taught the "old people's" class (her words) well into her 90's.
While Kathleen may have been small in stature, she was independent, tough, a true lady, and she took her son's wives under her wing. An avid Pacers and Colts fan, she was also devoted caretaker to those in need and was blessed to be able to drive until she was 97. She will always be fondly remembered for her warm smile, generous laugh, and her strong faith in God.
Along with her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alvin "Mac" Kenworthy.
Those left to mourn her passing are her sons, Thomas W. (Brenda) Kenworthy, and Jerry "Rocky" (Dorene) Kenworthy, both of Hazelwood; grandchildren, Scott (Sarah) Kenworthy of Owensboro, KY, and Jay (Shayla) Kenworthy of Zionsville; and great grandchildren, Brayden, Lydia, Parker, Ezra, and Joel.
Kathleen's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Amber Stanley and her team for their awesome and loving home care for her. We couldn't have done it without you all!
