Lance Herbert Swisher was born on December 12, 1983, at the Tallahassee Birth Centre and died unexpectedly on April 11, 2025, in Tallahassee at age 41. He lived in Tallahassee, Florida for most of his life.
Lance graduated from Rickards High School International Baccalaureate program in 2002. Boy Scouts of America was a big part of this time in his life. He became Chief of the Order of the Arrow and was awarded the Vigil Honor of Order of the Arrow. He was given the Indian name Linchpin Sakima which means "diligent chief." He also achieved the highest honor in Scouting, the Eagle Award. One highlight of his Scouting career was when his entire troop went on a trip to America's largest national high adventure base camp, Philmont Scout Ranch, in Cimarron, New Mexico.
Following high school, he worked with the Seminole Boosters for a few years. Then, he began his 20-year journey in the culinary world by working his way up from dishwasher to chef. Lance apprenticed under French chef, Laurant Poupart and cheffed locally at Chez Pierre, Georgio's, A La Provence, and Albert's restaurants before moving to Houston where he was sous chef at award-winning Reef restaurant. Later, he returned to Tallahassee as a caterer and private chef. He then established a food truck with his fellow chef and friend, Terrance Bond. The pandemic led to a change in the business model. He then created home cooked meals to order and cheffed at Orchard Pond for hunting events. This career change allowed him to spend more time on the water fishing, which he loved to do.
This last year, Lance lived his dream as a personal chef and traveled all over the country. He always put love into the food he created for others to enjoy. Lance was a gentle soul who loved animals, nature, camping, and music. He adored his nieces and nephews. When he was not in the kitchen, he would join friends and family in karaoke, kickball, ping-pong, volleyball, or other games.
He is survived by his parents, Harvey and Beth Swisher, his brother, Kevin Swisher, his sisters and their husbands, Jennifer and Richard Lynes and Bethannie and Jeremy Smith, his nieces, Morgan, Madison, and Montgomery Lynes, his nephews, Aspen and Canyon Swisher and Dylan and Crosby Smith, and his great-nephews Langston and Haiston Swisher.
The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Bevis Funeral Home, 200 John Knox Road in Tallahassee. The funeral service will be at 1:00PM on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at St. Peter's Anglican Cathedral, 4784 Thomasville Road in Tallahassee.
