Obituary
Laney Lou Baker, 27 of Brownsburg, Indiana, passed away on October 30, 2023. The following is an obituary written by her loving family.
Laney Baker was the most incredible wife, mother, and friend you would ever meet. She and Zach had a fairy tale love. It was love at first sight for both of them. Within two weeks of seeing each other, they were officially dating. Within 3 months, Zach gave her a promise ring and they promised to spend forever together. And, over the next 5 years, their love blossomed. Zach finally proposed to Laney at Lions Park in Zionsville, Indiana, a place where many years prior they shared one of her favorite memories of dancing together in the rain. They were married at Zionsville United Methodist Church, a place where within a month of being with Zach she declared "I am going to get married here." Over the next four years they traveled, moved from Indiana to Florida and back, and built a life and home together. They would spend the days texting and calling each other for every little thing. The nights they spent together taking walks, going out to eat at their favorite restaurants, listening to their favorite music, and watching their favorite movies together. Laney always tried to convert Zach to liking 90s grunge and Zach always tried to convert her to liking comedy movies. While neither were successful, both loved the other for their differences. Laney and Zach were different in so many ways. They liked different music, different tv shows, different decorations and had different favorite holidays (hers being Halloween and Zach's being Christmas). But, they always said that those differences made them who they were. When they were out to eat, they never tried to eat the other's plate. When they were listening to music, they always took turns taking over the radio. They found a love for Marvel movies together, naming their dog Peggy Carter after Captain America. And they compromised on decorations and most things letting Laney have what she wanted. But on the items that mattered most, they were the exact same. Both love Jesus with all their heart, both love friends and family and always want to be there for others. Both love each other with all their hearts. They always said forever and never went to bed angry. They always ended each night saying "I love you" with Laney sleeping with her head on Zach's chest. The best thing that either of them have ever done was on May 20th, 2021, they had their son, Roman. Roman is named after a verse in the Bible Romans 8:28 "For we know all things together for good, for those who trust in God and are called to serve his purpose." Laney was a devoted mother, quitting her job to become a stay-at-home Mom, which she always said was her purpose in life. Her focus was to teach Roman about God, make sure he was a kind and loving boy, and that he'd be much more prepared for his future wife than Zach was (cooking, cleaning, organization, etc.). Laney would always take him to the Pittsboro Park, Brownsburg Library, Avon YMCA, and anywhere that she could spend time with him. She loved her son more than any mother had before her or will after her, and she will be watching over him and Zach forever in Heaven.
We didn't have a name when we were on our way to the hospital. We had struggled for months trying to decide and couldn't agree. When she was born, the doctor asked, "What is her name?" and I smiled and said, "That's Delaney." We both thought we heard "Delaney Talks to Statues" playing. It wasn't. This song became special to her and her father throughout her life. It was their Daddy/Daughter Dance at Zach and Laney's wedding.
She had a spirit about her, and she made everything that she did fun. From Girl Scouts to 4-H and soccer. As a child during soccer games, we would often look over and find her sitting on the ground, picking flowers, or helping up a player who fell. She never met a stranger or someone she didn't love. She collected people and animals.
God only blessed us with Delaney. She used that to her advantage. Her lack of siblings was replaced with many, many pets all of whom were rescued. That was important to Delaney. Delaney's first grade teacher, Mrs. Herbert, once told us she was the mother hen of the playground. She was always taking care of all of the kids and checking in with each of them. Delaney even as a child had a deep passion for helping the Life Centers. She believed every life was a gift from God. At 10 years old, she raised $1,000.00 for them. This was something she was so proud of as were we.
Delaney loved spending summers in South Haven, Michigan with all our friends. She loved every Christmas, baking cookies with her grandmother and Courtney. This was a tradition they started when the girls were little.
Delaney found joy in high school in Mrs. Lurker's art room. She had a natural gift at pottery. One of the things Delaney loved the most was working for the GOP. She so enjoyed her job, planning the events and meeting so many different people. One of her proudest moments was meeting Vice President Pence and being buddies with Governor Holcomb. She loved the work she did there.
Friends and family will gather on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Eric M.D. Bell Funeral Home in Pittsboro, Indiana, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 pm.
