Laren Ray Cohea, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-uncle, and friend, completed his earthly journey on June 12, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on May 30, 1944, in Denver, Colorado, Laren's life was a testament to the joy and laughter he brought to everyone around him. His departure from this world was due to complications from a stroke, yet his spirit remains an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.
Laren's life was a combination of love, faith, and humor. He shared 61 wonderful & devoted years with his loving wife, Sharon S. Cohea, and together they raised a family that became his pride and joy. His legacy continues through his son, Mike Cohea and wife Valerie, daughter Robin Ganyard, son, Doug Cohea and wife Laurie. Laren was a doting grandfather to Naydia, Marissa & husband Brad, Jennifer & husband Jeremy, Rachel & husband Hunter, Dillon and wife Emily, Miranda, Austin & Trey. Laren is also survived by his brother Jerry Cohea and an 'honorary son', Kear Lor.
He was so excited to become a great grandfather, beginning 16 yrs ago, first to Kadyn & Bradyn, then following in the years to come with Elaina, Gavyn, Evelynn, Hudson, Sawyer, Audrey and Rose, and a cherished great-uncle to Asher Washburn.
Laren's career journey took him from International Harvester in Lubbock to Santa Fe Freight lines in Houston, and finally to Alvin ISD where he served with dedication as a shop leader. His expertise in auto and diesel mechanics was not merely a profession but a craft he honed with passion and precision.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Marguerite Cohea, his brother Dean Cohea, and niece Gina Cohea-Ryan.
A devout Christian, Laren lived his faith through his actions and he lead many to Christ.
Aside from his faith, Laren's first love was his family. He cherished the many camping trips, fishing outings, and hunting that brought them closer to nature and to each other. His garden was amazing, not only for the provisions for his family, but for the joy it brought to him and the many friends and neighbors who benefited from his & Sharon's generosity.
Today, as we celebrate Laren's journey home, we remember a life lived with laughter, love, and a deep faith that guided every step. His was a life that taught us the power of a smile, the strength of faith, and the immeasurable impact of kindness. Laren Ray Cohea will be profoundly missed, but his legacy of joy will continue to inspire us all.
