Larrimer A. Bonwik (Larry), 89, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
Born in Jersey City. Larry was predeceased by his parents George and Margaret Bonwick and is brother George James Bonwick. He is survived by his loving wife, Joanne, beloved son, Jeff Bonwick and his wife, Jennifer, loving grandsons, Andrew, David and Galen and his caring brother-in-law Bill Duncan and wife Barbara Chernick.
As a child Larry was fascinated with all things electrical so it was no surprise that following his graduation from Dwight Morrow High School, in Englewood, he would begin his career in the
Engineering Department of the New Jersey Bell Telephone Co, (now Verizon) while studying Engineering at Columbia University. Both his career and studies were interrupted by a two year tour of duty (1962-1963) in the Army Signal Corps as a Staff Sergeant.
Upon release from military service he resumed his career with New Jersey Bell moving from Draftsman, to Assistant Engineer to Engineer where he served as liason and telecommunications engineering consultant for all the architects and professional engineers throughout New Jersey. After retirement in 1991 he took a short break and was then hired as Vice-President of EXTEL Communications in Ridgewood and supervised the construction of an underground conduit system for IBM.
He served on the Waldwick Board of Education for two years, sang with the Cavaliers of Harmony, a Barbershop singing chorus and bowled with The Hobbyist's retired men's group for many years.
Larry was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ridgewood serving as Elder, Trustee, usher and member of the Stewardship and Property Committees over the years.
The family would appreciate donations to Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge Inc. (RBARI) 1 Shelter Lane Oakland, NJ 07436 or the Endowment Fund of First Presbyterian Church of Ridgewood, 722 E. Ridgewood Ave, Ridgewood NJ 07450.
