Mr. Larry O. Burnette, age 79 of Patrick Springs, Virginia passed on to his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. He was born in Floyd County, Virginia on March 18, 1945, to the late Charlie and Hava Emerline Burnette. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Ricky Burnette; two brothers, Ronald Burnette and Donald Burnette; one sister, Mildred Goad; and brother-in-law, Gentry Reece. Larry was well known for his outgoing personality, love of his family, strength of spirit, and determination to speak his mind. He was a self-employed electrician and owner of Burnette Electric for many years before his retirement. Throughout his life he was happiest when talking to friends, co-workers, and family. During his retirement, his friends at Howell’s Grocery kept his mornings full of life and laughter. Nothing compared in his eyes to his three beautiful grandchildren, and he loved to play with and tease them every chance he got. Larry served honorably in Vietnam as a member of the 11th Armored Calvary (Black Horse) unit of the U.S. Army and earned his Purple Heart in 1969. He never wavered in his support of his country, the military, and his faith. His vibrant personality will be missed by his community, his friends, and especially his family. Life without him will be quieter and definitely duller until we see him again. The family is so grateful for all those that brightened his day throughout his life.
Left to cherish the memories of Mr. Burnette are his loving wife of 56 years, Margaret Dian Graham Burnette; two sons, Michael Burnette (Christa) of Galax, VA and Stephen Burnette (Vanessa) of Hardy, VA; three grandchildren, Claire Burnette, Jacob Burnette, and Caroline Burnette; one brother, Charles W. Burnette (Hilda) of Floyd, VA; one sister, Loraine Reece of Christiansburg, VA; one brother-in-law, J.B. Goad of Floyd; several nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends.
A private graveside service will be held for Mr. Burnette in John Adams Cemetery with Rev. Ricky Burnette officiating. Military Rites provided by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. Mr. Burnette will lie in state at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the John Adams Cemetery Fund, 4603 Bull Mountain Road, Patrick Springs, VA 24133.
