Larry Edward Coullard, age 66, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died at his home on August 16, 2024. He was born on July 22, 1958, in Sault Ste. Marie to Lawrence J. Coullard and Mildred H. (Jones) Coullard.
Larry grew up in Sault Ste Marie and graduated from Sault High School. After graduation, he started working as a welder for the Twin City Dry Dock. He was known as a Jack of all trades at the Dry Dock. In 1988 he went to work for the Chippewa County Sheriff's Department and retired in 2002. Larry met and fell in love with Kathleen Schmidt, and they married on August 7, 1999, in Sault Ste. Marie, at the Sault Locks.
Larry was a member of the American Legion, the Moose and the VFW Post 3676, all in Sault Ste. Marie. He enjoyed spending a large amount of his time volunteering for all three organizations.
Larry enjoyed cooking for friends, playing the harmonica, and was a skilled welder and wood craftsman. He took pride in taking care of his home, and was always busy with a project from cutting the grass or designing some sort of wooden craft to make things easier. He also loved helping others who were less fortunate.
Larry is survived by his wife, Kathleen; daughter, Stacy (Aaron) Ancel; stepdaughter, Megan (Scott) Schmidt-Savoie; grandchildren, Ambri Ancel, Jaron Ancel, and Avery Schmidt; brother, Michael Coullard; sister, Nina Nyman; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will all miss him dearly.
Larry was preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Mildred; and sisters, Cynthia Coullard and Annette "Punky" Coullard.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the American Legion, 3 Legion Dr, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783.
A Private burial will take place at Holy Family Cemetery, in Bruce Township, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions can be made in Larry's name to the Salvation Army - Soup Kitchen & Food Pantry, 132 W Spruce St. Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783.
Family Life Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements. Condolences may be left to the family at www.familylifefh.com.
