FAIRFIELD/CASSVILLE – Larry O. Crossett, Sr., 77, of Babcock Hill Road and formerly of Fairfield, died on June 8, 2025, at MVHS Wynn Hospital, Utica.
Mr. Crossett was born on May 4, 1948, in Ilion, a son of the late Newton and Bertha (Lewis) Crossett. He received his education from West Canada Valley Schools. In 1965, he entered the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1971 at the rank of SP5. In his 50s, Larry obtained his CDL; he was an "old school" company man and drove trucks for R.B. Humphreys, Inc. for over 20 years. Mr. Crossett enjoyed bass fishing and competition; his bass boat was his pride and joy.
Survivors, besides his wife and companion of 32 years, Jan Howarth-Piayai, and her daughter, Marie Piayai of St. Louis, MO, include five children: Larry (Lisa) Crossett, Jr. of New Hartford, Lorn (Pauline) Crossett of Newport, Leonard and Lance Crossett of Gray, and Matthew Crossett of Herkimer; a brother, Leslie Crossett of Newport; a sister, Linda Robbins of Fairfield; seven grandchildren, Courtney, Cassidy, Cullen, Shanley, Jonathon, Lorn, and Cody; seven great-grandchildren; special friends, Karl Stemmer and Dave Valentine; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by two sisters, Louise Oldfield and her husband, Daniel, and Lorraine Dager and her husband, Richard; a brother-in-law, Hank Robbins; a sister-in-law, Charlene Crossett; two nephews, Mike and Alan Crossett; and a niece, Theresa Colvin.
A graveside service will take place at Middleville Rural Cemetery on Thursday, June 12, at 10:00 a.m., where Military Honors will be conferred by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
