William E. Young

Mr. William E. Young, age 92, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, at Valley Health Services in Herkimer, with his loving family by his side.
William was born on August 10, 1933, in Newport, a son of the late Edsall and Mildred (Clifford) Young. He received his education at West Canada Valley Central School. On February 11, 1956, he was united in marriage with Mary Bell at St. John's Church in Newport. Together they raised five children, and they were also lucky enough to be a part of the lives of their grandchildren.
Family was a priority during Bill's teenage years when he lost his dad at a young age and subsequently left school to work full time to help support his mother and two sisters. In 1953 he entered the United States Army where he served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He then returned to Newport where he worked at Borden's Coffee Plant. In his later years, he worked in the highway construction industry for Eastern Rock Products and J.H. Bell Construction. He retired from the Herkimer County Highway Department whereupon he and Mary had a chance to relax and travel at their leisure. Bill was a very meticulous person, especially when it came to the care of his vehicles and lawn!
Bill's survivors include his wife, Mary, and four children, Cathy Young and William Young, Jr. of Prospect, Mary Susan (Jeff) Fuller and Cheryl (Frank) Gorinshek of Newport; a son-in-law, Don Denapole of Middleville; eleven grandchildren, Michael, Tania, Russell, D.J., Klinton, Stephanie, Megan, Jacob, Abbey, Erin, and Katie; several great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Carol (John) Spisak; a brother-in-law, Pat Bell; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his daughter, Linda Denapole; and his sisters, Marie (Carl) Irwin and Genevieve (Don) Fauvelle.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Bill's caregivers at Valley Health Services, with special mention of Michelle, Sarah, and John.
A private funeral service for family members will be held in honor of Bill. There are no public calling hours. Arrangements are entrusted to the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport.
