Larry Leo Gilstrap, 76, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2025, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home surrounded by his family.
Born in Liberty, SC, he was the son of the late Alton William Gilstrap and Reba Pinion Gilstrap Clyborne. Larry was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War where he was a Gunner and Crew Chief. He retired with 20 years of service as Staff Sergeant in the Army National Guard. He later served and retired as Chief Helicopter Pilot with the Anderson County Sheriff's Department. Larry was a member of River of Life Church of God where he served as a Deacon for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Karen Porter Gilstrap; daughter, Krystal Caroline Gilstrap (Kelly Hall); sons, Alton D. Gilstrap and Adam C. Gilstrap (Sarah); six grandchildren, Nathan Gilstrap, Justus Gilstrap, Mecca Gilstrap, Autumn Gilstrap, Kemina Gilstrap, and Luke Gilstrap; four great-grandchildren; brother, Gary Wayne Gilstrap (Bonnie); and a sister, Alta Gilstrap Edens.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Rev. Dale Dyar. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service. Burial, with military honors, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, September 26, at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to River of Life Church of God, 601 South McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC 29624, or Anderson County P.A.W.S.,1320 Highway 29 South, Anderson, SC 29626.
