Larry Gorges Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Haughey Funeral Home, Inc. on Dec. 11, 2025.
Larry D. Gorges, age 81, of Caton, NY, died at home on December 9, 2025, after an extended illness surrounded by his family. Larry was born in Corning, NY on April 10, 1944, to Donald and Ruth Gorges. On June 12, 1965, he married his loving wife, Karen Reynolds Gorges, and they enjoyed 60 years together.

Larry grew up on his grandparent's dairy farm in Lindley, NY. Many memories and shenanigans were formed at the farm, mostly at the expense of his beloved older sister, Sandy. As a teenager they moved to Presho, NY where he resided until his marriage. He was a proud Northside Corning and CCC graduate.

He worked at Corning Incorporated's Sullivan Park for 37-years, retiring as a Ceramics Research Associate. For many years he was the stalwart coach of the Lindley Presho Caton Dodgers where many lifelong friendships were formed. During retirement, Larry enjoyed genealogy, history, and his family. He also served several terms as the Treasurer for the Caton Fire Department.

Larry is survived by his wife, Karen Reynolds Gorges, of Caton, NY; three children, Andrew (Eloise) Gorges of Tuscarora, NY, Amy (Todd) Carpenter of Southport, NY, and Aaron (Michele) Gorges of Canastota, NY; thirteen grandchildren: Caleb Carpenter, Oliver (Heather) Gorges, Jacob (Joanne) Carpenter, Andrew (Tia) Gorges, Sam (Heather) Carpenter, Jon (Emilee) Carpenter, Nate (Miranda) Gorges, Hayley (Jules) Gorges, Noah Carpenter, Micah Carpenter, Madison (John) Lapasnick, Eli Carpenter and Wyatt Gorges; ten great-grandchildren: Benjamin Gorges, Isabella Gorges, Finn Carpenter, Russell Carpenter, Theo Carpenter, Brady Carpenter, Barry Gorges, Beau Carpenter, Taylor Carpenter, and Archie Carpenter; and his sister-in-law, Marylin Reynolds. He also enjoyed the company of his many nieces and nephews.

Larry was predeceased by his parents, Don and Ruth Gorges; his special sister, Sandy Watson and her husband Bob; his brothers-in-law, Donald Reynolds and Charlie Reynolds; and sister-in-law, Susan Rullman.

Calling Hours will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, from 11:00 am-1:00 pm at The First Congregational United Church of Christ, 171 W Pulteney St, Corning, NY 14830, where a Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 pm. Burial will be held in Beaver Dams Cemetery in Beaver Dams, NY.

Memorial donations may be given in Larry's memory to Lindley Presho Caton Little League, 9136 Presho School Road, Painted Post, NY 14870 or to the Caton Volunteer Fire Station District #1, 1118 Caton Road, Corning, NY 14830.
