Larry Goux Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crowder Funeral Home - Dickinson on Jan. 19, 2025.
Larry L. Goux (87) aka Daddy, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025, just days after his 87 birthday. He was born in Bunkie, Avoyelles, Louisiana, to Alfred and Gladys Goux on December 19, 1937. He attended Bunkie High School where he enrolled in the National Guard for his junior and senior years. During his school years, he was an honorable Boy Scout. After graduation, he attended LSU where he served in the ROTC during his first two years of college. He graduated from LSU in 1961 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and immediately enlisted in the Air Force as Private First Class, 156 Infantry. He was stationed at Brooks Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas where he met his first wife, Marie Antoinette "Toni" Gauthier. They married on January 5, 1962. He was honorably discharged in 1963 and took a job at IBM in Baton Rouge. With the emerging space exploration program his expertise and skill landed him a job with NASA where he worked for four (4) years. He was offered a position with LSU Administrative Office and returned to Baton Rouge where he would spend the next 35 years. Larry and Toni had the pleasure of raising three girls, Hypatia G. LaCour, Melissa G. Durham and Tina G. Spruell. In 1974, Larry started working with the State of Louisiana Board of Regents. He as nicknamed "Goux Roux" where he made multiple contributions to the Louisiana higher education system and finally retired for a second time in 1996. Larry married Cynthia Eames in 1998 and moved to Dickinson, Texas where he has lived the past 26 years. During this time, he taught mathematics at the College of the Mainland and he and Cindy traveled extensively in their earlier days and made many memories. Quick with numbers and advice Daddy's body finally gave way, and his body succumbed to permanent rest. He will be remembered by the "logarithm t-shirts" he wore and the advice he gave on playing chess and "life".
Larry was predeceased by his father, Alfred Goux and mother, Gladys Goux, his brothers, Gladford Goux, Edgar Goux, his sister, Monterey Cotton, the mother of his daughters, Toni, and his granddaughter, Claire Lankford.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Eames-Goux, and daughters Hypatia G. "Patia" LaCour (Jim), Melissa G. Durham, Tina G. Spruell, grandchildren, Chris Harlan (Brooke), Barbara Klingler (Jonathan), Levi Durham, John Aaron Durham, Sarah Spruell, Amanda Spruell, Bryan Spruell, great grandchildren, Colton Harlan, Tucker Harlan, Jimmer Klingler, Ivy Klingler, Ava Klingler, his bonus children, Patricia Andersen (Mark), Chris Eames (Charity), Michael Eames (Jenny), grandchildren Bryson Eames, Blythe Eames, Allen Eames (Dante), Katie Drury (Travis) and great-granddaughter, Evelynn Eames, several loving nieces and nephews.
We would like to give a special thanks to his wonderful caregivers, Gloria Akeredolu, Corneisha Tidwell, Ponika (Jay) Williams for their love and compassion.
He has requested to be cremated, and his ashes return to this earth. We will have a private service to return his ashes back to his favorite place the Gulf of Mexico, but we would like all friends and family to attend a Celebration of Life event at the home of Chris and Charity Eames in the future.
