Larry Keith Hicks of Bancroft lost his courageous battle with cancer on July 29 at the Hubbard Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Larry gave his life to the Lord and his baptism was witnessed by his family and a host of friends. Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Alma Hicks; father, Bill Hicks; sister, Donna "Toodles" Lewis; and brother, Clarence "Buck" Hicks. Larry is survived by his loving wife, Linda A; son, Jamie and wife, Greta Hicks, of Tennessee, and their children, Erica, David, Zak, Zayne, Zoie, and Cooper; daughter, Nikki and husband, Jay Phillips, of Bancroft and their children, Jaycob and Jordan; son, Jason Hicks of Nitro; and son, Scott and Marsha Myers of Bancroft and their children, Stevi, Kody, Tyler, Kelli, Zoey, and Boston; brother, William "Bill" Stewart, and wife Donna of Hurricane; twin sister, Mary Lee and husband, Mike Steele, of Scott Depot; brother-in-law, Danny Lewis, of Scott Depot; and sister-in-law, Greta Hicks, of Nitro. He is survived by several nieces and nephews who loved him very much and a great host of friends. Larry was a graduate of Nitro High School; an Army veteran of the Viet Nam war; a retiree of FMC; and currently an employee of Elemtis Specialties of Charleston. He was a member of several organizations including: coach for North Putnam Little League, Nitro Moose Lodge 565, VFW, Bancroft Bass Masters, WV Bass Federation, FLW, and Bass Anglers Sportsman Society. He was also a former coach for Nitro Little Little League baseball and Nitro Midget Football. Larry was an avid WVU fan. A celebration of Larry's life will be 11:00 am Friday at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, WV with Pastor Ronald Burnsworth officiating. Entombment will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens Mausoleum. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Linda and her family want to extend special heartfelt thanks to Dr. Khalid and nurse, Emily, all the nurses in the infusion center at the David Lee Cancer Center, and a special thanks to the Hospice team, Dr. Warren, Kim Robertson, and the rest of the Blue Team. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Kanawha Hospice Care, 1143 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar, West Virginia 25064.
