Larry Honaker

Larry Honaker, 88, of Eugene, passed away peacefully on Oct 31, 2025, surrounded by family.
Born in Culloden, West Virginia, Larry was the son of the late Winifred and Ora Belle (Martin) Honaker. He was lovingly raised by his grandparents, William Amos and Cinderella Josephine Honaker.
Larry proudly served his country in the US Air Force as an Airman 2nd Class, Air Traffic Control and Warning Operator.
Following his military service, Larry dedicated 26 years to Wildish Sand & Gravel, where he was a skilled dump truck and tanker driver. He later worked 13 years as a school bus driver for Springfield School District, where he especially enjoyed participating in the annual school bus rodeo.
On Dec 10, 1961, Larry married the love of his life, Shirley Newingham, in Eugene, OR.
A man of faith and community involvement, Larry served many years as a deacon at the Eugene Church of Christ. He was an active member of the American Legion and the MAFCA (Model A Ford Club of America), specifically participating in the Mckenzie A's chapter, where he enjoyed Model A activities and competitions.
In his leisure time, Larry enjoyed fishing, golfing, and bowling. Upon retiring, he spent many fulfilling years traveling the United States in a motorhome from coast to coast.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and his grandson, James Jacobson.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 64 years, Shirley Honaker of Eugene, and his loving children:
• Christine & Daniel Nystrom, daughter and son-in-law, Port Orchard, WA.
• Rhonda & Jesus Gutierrez, daughter and son-in-law, of Eugene, OR.
• Larry & Gail O'Neil, son and daughter-in-law, of North Bend, OR.
Larry was the cherished grandfather of five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.at the Church of Christ, 2424 Norkenzie, Eugene, OR.
