Larry Ervin Johnson, 82, of Blackduck, Minnesota, passed away early Thursday morning, September 5, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Blackduck.
A visitation will be held Thursday, September 12, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Evangelical Free Church in Blackduck. Funeral service will be held Friday, September 13, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Evangelical Free Church in Blackduck, and a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Larry was born on July 12, 1942 in Summit Township, near Blackduck, the son of William and Irene (Christianson) Johnson. He attended school in Blackduck. In 1959, as a young man, Larry went to work on a grain farm at Gilby, North Dakota and soon after on a large grain farm in Pembina, North Dakota. He returned to the Blackduck area and on October 7, 1967, he was united in marriage to Joyce Safe. Throughout the years, Larry worked as a farmer and as a logger, driving truck. Over his career he put on over a million miles. He also for a short time raised dairy cattle, and then beef cattle. Larry was active in the community having served on the Summit Township board, Co-op board, Church board, and the Lakeland Farmers Insurance board. He was member of the Blackduck Evangelical Free Church and a former member of the Crossroads Church in Bemidji, Minnesota. Larry enjoyed farming, reading, listening to Polka and Country music, traveling, camping, deer hunting, grilling, and gardening.
Larry is survived by his wife, Joyce; sons, William (Cary) Johnson of Spring, TX, and Loren (Sharon) Johnson of Dickinson, ND; a daughter, Sandee (Steven) Nattrass of Blackduck, MN; 10 Grandchildren, Meghanne, Keziah (Peter), Madison, Colten (Makenzie), Ahava (Steven), Ashlynne, Jaccob, Kadin, Yakira and Tirzah; great-granddaughter, Adrielle; brother-in-law, Ken Safe; sisters-in-law, Nancy (Rick) Mares, Carol Johnson, and Peggy Gross; step-siblings, Jolaine (Rodney) Boreen, Richard (Audrey) Michalicek, Marilyn (Nyle) Pasko, Harry (Kay) Michalicek and Ken (Jan) Michalicek, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Irene Johnson; brothers, Walter and Clarence Johnson; in-laws, Martin and Eleanor Safe, and stepfather, Mike Michalicek.
