Larry Charles Jones went to meet his heavenly father on June 14, 2025, at his home in Fair Oaks Ranch, TX surrounded by his loving family. After 58 years as an amputee, he ran home into Jesus arms. He was born in Monahans, TX on Oct 1, 1938, to his parents L.C. & Irene Jones. He shared 61 wonderful years of marriage to Dorothy Little Jones, whom he married on August 9, 1963, in Ft. Smith, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lane Jones & Lonnie Jones.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy, and 2 daughters, Crystal Maher (Marty) and Laurie Harder (Rob). He is also survived by his brother L.H. Jones (Connie), sister Lavona Wilborn (Malcolm) and 4 grandchildren, Cody Maher, Carson Maher (Kari), Brandon David, & Lauren David and one great-granddaughter, Elise Maher. He also leaves behind a large extended family that he cherished dearly.
Larry graduated from Dublin High School (1957), Texas Tech University (1964), Thunderbird Graduate School (1971) and Grand Canyon College (1972). He earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in international Trade.
While serving his country in the US Army he was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam (1967), he was shot in an ambush that resulted in the amputation of his left leg above the knee. Larry loved Texas and taught Texas History before becoming a media specialist for the deaf in the El Paso ISD for 31 years. He was the "original Mac computer guy" and was self-taught on any and all things Apple before they were popular. Recently, he was known for his gunsmith business, Gunwurkz, in Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas.
Grandpa Jones was a loving Husband, wonderful Father and Grandfather. Taking his grandchildren on many "educational" trips and teaching them about guns, computers and how to drive. Always willing to teach and explain. He was active in every church he attended during his life. Serving as a deacon, on committees and helping wherever needed with maintenance. In El Paso he was a director in the Video ministry. Recently, he was a member of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio.
Memorial services will be on Friday June 20, 2025, at First Baptist Church Dublin, TX. Viewing from 1-2 pm and Service at 2 pm. Followed by a brief service with Military Honors at Dublin Live Oak Cemetery.
