BRAZIL-Larry Lee Keeney, 75, of Brazil, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Cloverleaf Healthcare of Knightsville. He was born on January 29, 1950, in Greencastle, Indiana, to the late Charles Ernest Keeney and Mildred Lou Clodfelter Keeney.
Larry was truly a jack of all trades. Throughout his life, he wore many hats, including farmer, grave digger for numerous cemeteries in the surrounding area, beekeeper, and animal hide tanner. His versatility and hard work were admired by all who knew him.
Larry is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Tabor Keeney, whom he married February 14, 1999. He is also survived by one brother, Lonnie (Brenda) Keeney of Greencastle, and sisters, Linda (Richard) Jones of Cloverdale and Lora (Gordon) Bingham of Schneider; step children, Kathy (Mark) Harbin of Carbon, Duane (Tamara) Pruett of Westfield, Donna (Randy) Jones of Brazil, Christina (Robert Matherly) Fields of Cloverdale and Tracy (Dwain) Archer of Brazil; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Larry was a 1968 graduate of Russellville High School. He was a member of Croy Creek Christian Church, served as president of the Indiana Beekeepers Association and was the 1997 Beekeeper of the year. He played the Native American Flute, enjoyed woodcarving and looked forward to the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival each fall where he hand dipped ice cream in the Old Towne Hall at Bridgeton. His legacy of resourcefulness, dedication, and love for his family and community will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, February 18, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard Street, Rockville, with Pastor Steven P. Blaydes, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Hebron Cemetery in Russellville. Visitation is 4-8 pm Monday at Gooch Funeral Home.
