Larry Ferrell Lane passed away August 15, 2025 at the age of 80. Larry was born on October 30, 1944 to Avis Afton (Finney) Lane and Gerald Brown Lane. He was raised on the Lane family farm, east of St. Catharine, MO. Larry graduated from Brookfield High School in 1962. He attended Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State) for a year. Beginning in the early 1960s through the mid-1970s Larry was a master builder of race cars and a champion race car driver. Larry's time of 7.34 seconds was recorded as a world record for the mile race by the American Hot Rod Association in 1967. Like his father and grandfather, Larry began a long and successful farming career at a very young age. He was devoted to his work and loved the land he farmed. In addition to planting, caring for, and harvesting his crops, he spent countless days on a bulldozer or trackhoe, always intentional about making the land better than he found it. Despite his declining health, Larry planted his crops this spring, with Josh by his side. Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Susan (Anderson) Lane and by his faithful companion and guard-cat, Tom, of their home in Brookfield, MO. Larry and Susan have four children: Tracy Lane of Marceline, MO; Chad Lane of Independence, MO; Josh Thudium and his wife, Jamie, of Macon, MO; Lindsay (Thudium) Stufflebean and her husband, Ryan, of Kirksville, MO. The couple have six grandchildren: Lane Bascom of Columbia, MO; Josie West, Jessa Thudium, and Jayli Thudium of Macon, MO; Kenslie Stufflebean and Chase Stufflebean of Kirksville, MO. Larry is also survived by his three siblings: Gary Lane and his wife, Linda, of Brookfield, MO; Ron Lane of Moberly, MO; and Charlotte (Lane) Nickerson of Bucklin, MO, as well as brother-in-law, John Anderson and his wife, Ann, of Cameron, MO; sister-in-law, Rosemary (Anderson) Taylor and her husband, Bob, of Canton, MO; sister-in-law, Marjorie Anderson of Cameron, MO; brother-in-law, Gene Anderson, of Iowa; sister-in-law, Sharon (Anderson) Huck and her husband, Herb, of Bucklin, MO; and many nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Lane in 1997 and his mother, Avis Lane in 2004. He was also preceded in death by brother-in-law, Mark Nickerson; sister-in-law Donna Lane; daughter-in-law Sherri Thudium; brother-in-law Robert Anderson; brother-in-law David Anderson; brother-in-law Jack Anderson; sister-in-law, Martha Anderson; sister-in-law Jane (Anderson) Dougherty; sister-in-law, Joanne (Anderson) Andrews. Larry Lane was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church of Bucklin, MO. Reverend Jason Hug of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church will officiate Larry's funeral service. Christian burial will follow the service at Pleasant Grove Cemetery where Larry will be laid to rest with his parents, grandparents, and other members of the Lane family. Family and friends are invited to share a meal at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church immediately following the services. Larry's family has asked for donations in Larry's honor to be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
