Larry Andre Lewis, of Smilax, Kentucky was born on January 9, 1969, in Leslie County, Kentucky to the union of Larry & Alphia Engle Lewis. He departed this life on April 12, 2025, at the Mary Breckinridge ARH in Hyden, Kentucky. He was 56 years old at the time of his passing.
Andre had a commendable career as a former coal miner, giving his best years to TECO and Leeco during his tenure in the mining industry. His steadfast work ethic and dedication led him to serve as a deputy jailor at the Leslie County Detention Center, a role he embraced with pride. Larry loved his job and his coworkers, always ready to lighten the mood with a prank or a joke. Andre had an easy-going, laid-back personality and quick wit.
An avid outdoorsman, Andre cherished the great outdoors. He found immense joy in fishing, riding his side by side, and hunting, especially for deer. Music was an essential part of his life, and he loved listening to it whenever he had the opportunity.
Larry Andre Lewis leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Renee Lewis of Smilax, KY, whom he married on September 9, 1993. He is survived by his loving parents, Larry and Alphia Engle Lewis of Smilax, KY. He leaves behind three brothers, Keith Lewis (Rene) of Smilax, KY, Kelvin Lewis Smilax, KY, and Jerry Kilburn (Betty) of Leatherwood, KY. His extended family includes his brother-in-law, Johnny Ray Johnson (Cynthia "Chic") of Smilax, KY; sisters-in-law Wanda Kilburn (James) of Yeaddiss, KY, Brenda Pennington (Daniel) of Smilax, KY, Maggie Sue Coots of Yeaddiss, KY, Linda Lewis (David) of Smilax, KY, and Vicky Hardin (Phillip) of Clay Hole, KY. A special niece, Madison Brooke Napier, and his best friend, Oscar Fragosa, along with a host of other relatives and a multitude of friends, also survive him.
Larry Andre Lewis was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Roy and Stella Lewis, and his maternal grandparents, Lillie and Vycie Engle.
The funeral service to commemorate the life of Larry Andre Lewis will be held at 1p.m. Thursday, April 17th, 2025 at the Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ at Smilax, KY with Rev. Billy Joe Lewis officiating.
Interment will follow at the Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ Cemetery with Randall Coots, Rodney Coots, Daniel Causey, Will Baker, Ricky Baker, Rick Baker, Byron Lewis, Oscar Fragosa, Brent Lewis, and Jadin Hardin serving as pallbearers.
Friends and family may gather for visitation from 6p.m. - 9p.m. on Wednesday evening at the church.
Arrangements are being handled carefully under the direction of Wolfe & Sons Funeral Home.
