David Pennington, a beloved member of the community and a dedicated family man, passed away on October 15, 2025, in Smilax, Kentucky. He was born on February 25, 1958, in Leslie County, Kentucky, and enjoyed a life characterized by kindness, warmth, and a friendly spirit.
David was a proud former steel worker, a profession that showcased his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. He was a high school graduate, and throughout his life, he remained humble and approachable, always ready to lend a helping hand to those around him. His love for his family and friends was paramount, forming the core of his identity.
With a passion for fishing and spending quality time with his family, David found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was also an avid coin collector, a hobby that brought him both challenge and excitement. David was never without the companionship of his two cherished dogs, Trouble and Whiz, who brought him endless joy.
David is survived by one brother, Ricky Day and Jowanna of Smilax, KY, a special niece, Wendy Fields of Smilax, KY, and a nephew, Carl Day of Smilax, KY. He leaves behind a host of other nieces, nephews, and good friend, Rob, who will remember him for his gentleness and kindness.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Pennington, as well as his sisters, Lorene Adams, Mavie Roberts, and Ruth Roberts. David was also preceded in death by his brothers, Rex and James Pennington, as well as Michael Day and Gary Day.
Visitation will be held on October 19, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Walker Funeral Homes, LLC, located at 155 Hickory Street, Hyden, KY. A funeral service will take place the following day, October 20, 2025, beginning at 1:00 PM, also at Walker Funeral Homes, LLC, concluding at 2:00 PM.
David Pennington will be sorely missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love and kindness will continue to be felt in the hearts of his family and friends.
Visitation: Sunday, October 19, 2025 from 6pm to 9pm at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home chapel
Funeral: Monday, October 20, 2025 at 1pm at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home chapel
Officiating Clergy: Troy Smith
Interment: Pennington Cemetery - Smilax, KY
