Larry Eugene Massengill

 

Four Oaks, NC: Mr. Larry Eugene Massengill, age 83, of Strickland’s Crossroads Road passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the SECU Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be 3:00PM-Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Blackman’s Grove Baptist Church in Four Oaks. Officiating will be Rev. Rodney Wilson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.                  

Mr. Massengill was born on May 14, 1940 in Johnston County to the late Robert Gideon, Sr. and Cassie Lee Massengill. He was preceded in death by his brothers, R.G. Massengill, Jr., Sherrill Massengill, sister-in-law, Faye Massengill; and his sweet dog, Pepper.  Larry retired from the Johnston County ABC after over 32 years of service. He served on the Benson Rescue Advisory board for many years. During their annual radiothon he helped raise funds to support the volunteer rescue squad. Mr. Massengill was a retired volunteer fireman serving on Blackman's Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department.  He also worked with Mr. Harold Medlin for many years repairing electric fence controls. In 2013, he acquired the business which became Larry's Fencer Shop. Mr. Massengill in 2017 moved the shop to its current location.     

 Surviving include his wife of 54 years, Sylvia Baker Massengill; sons, Stephen Massengill of Four Oaks, David Massengill and wife, Erica of Garner; sister-in-law, Marjorie Young Massengill of Four Oaks; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:45PM at Blackman’s Grove Baptist Church prior to the service and other times at the home.
