Larry Gene McDanel, age 84, of Exline, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
Larry was born on December 23, 1939 in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Esther (Terry) McDanel. He graduated from Centerville High School with the Class of 1957. He was united in marriage to Linda Darlene Gist on November 1, 1975, and to this union, four children were raised, Greg, Mark, Shannon, and David.
Larry owned and operated Saddle Rock Restaurant for 6 years. He then opened McDanel Insurance Services, and worked as an insurance agent for 45 years before he retired. He was a devoted man of God, and was a member of the Hagee Ministries Organization. Larry and Linda attended Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in Centerville. As time progressed, the coupled enjoyed a weekly bible study together every Sunday in their home while Larry enjoyed his coffee.
Larry and Linda were the couple that everyone wishes for in their own relationships. They took trips together, some of the most memorable in Branson and the Ozarks. They talked about everything together, they shared cooking duties, especially during family dinners. He was her "food police" and they loved having their grandchildren over for slumber parties.
In his free time, Larry was a lifetime member of the NRA and Ducks Unlimited. He was also fond of hunting, fishing, canoeing, tent camping, going for walks, mushroom hunting, keeping up with politics and playing cards, especially Rook and Solitaire. Larry was also known by his family as an amazing cook.
Left to honor Larry's memory are his children, Mark (Shelley) McDanel, Shannon (Tim) Starr, and David (LaVada) McDanel; his grandchildren, Kasandra McDanel, Samantha (Thomas) Sager, Travis McDanel, Rosemary McDanel, Elizabeth (Justin) Bullard, Tyler Starr, Jacob Starr, Kaylin McDanel, and Luke McDanel; great grandchildren, Isabela, Cadence, Blayne, Scarlett, Rowan and Theo; his sister, Deanna Sherwood; his brother, Terry (Diane) McDanel; his daughter-in-law, Kathy McDanel; as well as several extended family and friends.
Larry entered into Heaven with his wife, Linda McDanel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Esther McDanel; his son, Greg McDanel; his daughter-in-law, Laura McDanel; and his brother-in-law, Richard Sherwood.
Funeral Services will be held at 11AM, Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at the Solid Rock Church of God in Centerville with Pastor Kay Singley and Pastor Tony Angran officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Exline Cemetery.
