Larry Miller, age 83, of Ashland, Kentucky, peacefully departed this life to be with his Lord on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at UK Kings Daughters Medical Center. Born on September 8, 1942, in Ypsilanti, MI, he was the cherished son of the late George W. and Madge Burchett Miller.
Larry dedicated his life to serving others, retiring from the State of Kentucky as a social worker, where he also held the position of Assistant Director of Eastern Kentucky. His passion for education led him to teach at Ashland Community College and in Carter County at Lawton and Prichard, where he inspired countless students with his wisdom and kindness.
A man of many talents, Larry was an avid writer who enjoyed documenting his observations through journals and articles. His commitment to his community was evident in his extensive involvement with various organizations. He was a devoted member of Iron Hill Missionary Baptist Church and served as treasurer for Westwood Enterprise Baptist and attended Rose Hill Baptist Church. Larry's leadership extended to roles such as Kentucky Colonel, Executive Director of Westwood Boys Club, and President of the Kentucky Tenure Association, among others. He also served on the Board of Directors for Pathways and was City Manager of Bellfonte, Fred Gross Lodge #953 F. &A.M., and Olive Hill Eastern Star #290, leaving a lasting impact on those he served.
Larry had a passion for cooking, particularly when it came to creating delightful sweets that brought joy to family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather, and his legacy will live on through his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Edna Brown Miller; sons, Neal and wife Angela Miller of Winchester, KY, and Erik Niles and wife Valorie Maddox-Miller of Catlettsburg, KY; sisters, Jenneth Very of Charlestown, IN, and Jill and husband Brent Moore of Charlestown, IN; brother, Ronnie Miller of Charlestown, IN; grandchildren, Megan Leigh and husband Jake Hall, and Jackson Lewis Miller; and great-granddaughter, Laci Kate Hall.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Malone Funeral Home, with Bro. Gordon Burgess and Bro. Ed Cook, officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Burial Park. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Gene Brown, Trent Moore, Jackson Miller, Erik Miller, Neal Miller, and Jake Hall.
