Michelle Gifford Obituary

Visit the Malone Funeral Home website to view the full obituary.
Michelle Stemmer Gifford, age 58, of Grayson, Kentucky, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 25, 1967, in Ashland, Kentucky, she was the cherished daughter of Barbara Sargent Smith and Phillip (Melanie) Stemmer. Michelle was preceded in death by her beloved son-in-law, Josh Stewart, and her step-father, Bo Smith.

Michelle grew up with a strong sense of family and faith, values she carried throughout her life and lovingly passed down to her children and grandchildren. She dedicated her professional life to serving her community as a Deputy Clerk with the Carter County Circuit Clerk's Office and previously as a Certified Court Security Officer at the Carter County Sheriff's Office. Her commitment to her work was matched only by her devotion to her family and faith. A proud member of Garner Missionary Baptist Church in Rush, Michelle found strength and solace in her faith, which guided her through life's challenges.

An enthusiastic spirit, Michelle had a passion for life that was evident in her many interests. She loved attending Bluegrass Festivals, particularly Rudy Fest, where she could immerse herself in the music and joy of the community. A devoted fan of NASCAR and UK Basketball, she found great pleasure in following her favorite sports. She also loved traveling with her family and friends, but her most loved destination was the Gulf Coast of Florida.

While she held many roles in her lifetime, her proudest and most cherished title was Mamaw. Michelle loved spending her time attending countless sporting events to support her precious grandchildren-Trace Bond, Jakob Stewart, McKinlee Stewart, and Jackson Traylor-who brought her immense joy and pride. Nothing brought her more happiness than being with her grandchildren.

Michelle is survived by her loving husband, David Allen Gifford; her children, Amanda Marie (Michael) Walters of Ashland, Jerry Phillip (Megan) Traylor of Union, and Sarah Dawn (John) Skinner of Grayson; her beloved dog, Hank; her siblings, Kristen (Moe) Arnett of Frankfort, Kristopher (Katie) Stemmer of Lexington, and Courtenay (Mike) Crum of Ashland; a step-brother, Bo Smith of Ashland; her life-long friend, Barbara (Bob) Grier of St. Pete, FL; her special work family; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will deeply miss her presence.

Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, October 6, 2025, at the Malone Funeral Home, with Bro. Gary Arrington officiating. Burial will follow at Huffman Cemetery on Tygart Creek. Visitation will take place from 6-9 PM on Sunday and after 10 AM on Monday until the service hour.

In this time of sorrow, the family invites you to share your condolences and memories at www.malonefuneralhome.com. Michelle's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, and her legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering love will forever be remembered.
