Larry Owens

Rev. Dr. Larry Bruce Owens, Sr., 69, of Moncks Corner, stepped into his Savior's arms on January 1, 2026. Born on January 7, 1956 in Ware Shoals he was the son of the late Ellis and Ruby Owens. After graduating from The Citadel Military College of South Carolina with a degree in Political Science, Dr. Owens pursued a successful career in the insurance industry where he received several awards and acknowledgements. In 1996, Dr. Owens graduated from Erskine Theological Seminary where he received his Master of Divinity and accepted the Lord's calling to serve as minister. Shortly after, he completed his Doctorate at Southwestern Theological Seminary. He pastored several churches in which he poured into his congregation, but placed focus and priority on the children and youth ensuring they experienced opportunities to travel and serve through mission work. These trips included opportunities for youth to serve in Virginia, Maryland, Mississippi, Florida, and Kentucky through the World Changers Organization.
Over the last several years, Dr. Owens has enjoyed spending time with his family, specifically his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Angela Smith Owens of Moncks Corner; three sons, Blake Owens (Lauren) of Lexington, Bruce Owens (Ashley) of Moncks Corner, and James Loughlin of Florida; two daughters, Brittne Knight (Tim) of Moncks Corner, and Allison Gaskins (Ryan) of Cordesville. He will forever be the proud grandfather of Levi, Caroline, Rhett, Eliza-Kate, Brylan, Gina, Konner, Layla, Henry, McKinley, Owen, Jackson, and Bentley.
He is also survived by his brother, Randall Owens (Maxine) of Ware Shoals; and his sisters, Susan Roach (Clark) of Ware Shoals and Kim DeVore (Millard) of Honea Path.
In each sermon Dr. Owens preached, he ended with a challenge for himself and his congregation. Today's challenge? What is your "life sentence?" What is the sentence you would want others to say about you when remembering you when you are no longer present? Will the sentence show earthly success, a lasting difference, eternal impact? You decide. Whatever this sentence may be for you, choose it today, and begin making it a reality. Live purposefully, find joy in small things, and trust the Lord Almighty's redemptive power in your life.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Blyth Funeral Home & Cremation Services, with Dr. Floyd Parker officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 AM Thursday morning at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Ware Shoals or First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner.
