Larry Joseph Rathmann, a lifelong resident of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from complications related to a stroke.
He was born in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday, August 20, 1954, to Joe and Ida (Vavricka) Rathmann. He is survived by his brothers, David and Thomas (Robin) Rathmann; his nephew, Joseph (Brendon); and his beloved pets, Roxy and Buddy. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ida, and his sister, Joanne.
Larry graduated from Antonian High School in 1972 and later achieved a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Larry was a professional construction contractor with a talent for building. Among other skills, he was adept at millwork, painting, and plumbing. In his semi-retired life, he became the neighborhood handyman.
Larry loved the open water and spent much of his time on his boat or his brother’s boat. He had a passion for scuba diving and became a Dive Master in 2001. He dove in exotic locations and was an avid fisherman, often seen at Braunig or Calaveras Lakes, or with his brothers in Texas coastal waters, whether inshore or offshore.
Larry was easy-going, agreeable, and loved by his neighbors, friends, and family.
