Larry LaVern Relyea, Sr., 81, of Vestal, passed away on Monday April 14, 2025, at his home. Born on November 28, 1943, Larry's life was marked by love, service, and a profound commitment to his family and country.
Larry was a pillar of strength and love for his children Jody Varner, Larry L. Relyea Jr., Charles "Chuck" Relyea, and Brandy Huntly. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Cassandra, Nathaniel, Elijah, Moriah, John, Larry L. III, Lara, Madison, Morgan, Chiana, and Kiera, as well as his great-grandchildren Aiyanna, Genevieve, and one eagerly anticipated.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend Roberta "Bobbi" Relyea in 2014.
A proud veteran, Larry served his nation with valor and distinction. His time as a Marine and the Army National Guard was a testament to his courage and dedication. As a field radio operator in Vietnam, he earned the Purple Heart, a symbol of his bravery and sacrifices. Larry's military legacy continued long after his service years, as he remained an active member of various veteran associations, always ready to extend a hand to his fellow servicemen and women.
Throughout his life, Larry was known for his charitable nature. He was a philanthropist at heart, never hesitating to offer help to those in need. His friends and family often recounted how he would literally give the shirt off his back to support others. His generosity knew no bounds, and he left an indelible mark on his community through his countless acts of kindness.
Larry's interests were as vast and vibrant as his personality. He was an avid collector with a particular fondness for antique tools, each piece telling a story of craftsmanship and history that he cherished. His home was a treasure trove of memories, where every item had its own special place and significance.
Friends and family are invited to a period of visitation on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig Street, Newark Valley, NY, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. A service of sharing memories and celebrating Larry's life will follow.
