Lawrence (Larry) David Schneider, 56, of Fulton died after a brief illness on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at University Hospital, surrounded by family.
Larry was born on August 19, 1966 in St. Louis to Robert (Bob) Schneider and the late Martha (Steinbach) Schneider.
Although born with cognitive disabilities, Larry was well loved because of his kind and gentle spirit. After working many years at Kingdom Projects, he attended the Life Enrichment Center where he made many friends.
He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Fulton for 45 years, attending the early Mass on Sunday mornings. During Mass, he liked to sing, and loudly said, "Lord hear our PRAYER" every Sunday. When he saw church members around town, he would enthusiastically say, "Church! Church!" He was involved with ICan Bike and Special Olympics basketball and bowling. He especially enjoyed bowling twice a week with his caregiver C.J. Batey.
At home he was known for always being on the move and wanting to be on the swings in the back yard year round. Inside the house he wanted Gilligan's Island to be playing while he sat on his exercise bike and frequently came to the kitchen to remind his sister "Dishes" and "Cookies." On Sundays after Mass, his brother-in-law took him shopping at Moser's where Larry insisted "Cart" and said, "Hi! How you?" to all the regulars. He enjoyed walks in the woods and often told Carol, "Stevie. Far away" because Steve lives in Virginia and would videochat.
Larry is lovingly remembered by his father, Bob (Mary) Schneider; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Bill Hinchie; brother and sister-in-law, Steve Schneider and Nora Sheehan; nieces and nephews, Josh Hinchie, Angela Hinchie (Levi), Mary Hinchie, Joseph Hinchie, Teresa Hinchie, Jamie Schneider and Audrey Schneider, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Edwin and Marie Schneider and George and Lucy Steinbach, and his mother Martha (Steinbach) Schneider.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Fulton with Father Joseph Abah officiating. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Following visitation, a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023, at Maupin Funeral Home. The Rite of Christian Burial will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery immediately following the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made either to iCan Bike - Fulton or St. Peter Catholic Church c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Boulevard, Fulton, Missouri 65251.
