Larry Shaffer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hahn Funeral Home on Jan. 6, 2026.
Our hearts are broken to share the passing of our wonderful brother. Larry was a great friend, father and confidant to all who knew him. He left us too soon after a painful bout with cancer. I know we should be happy that his suffering is over, but as he was the youngest of six kids, its hard to accept.

After graduating from Penn High school in 1979 as a varsity football player, affectionately nicknamed, "The Snake," he went on to hone his trade as a ceramic tile layer showing his creative side. The first ten years in Osceola followed by twenty years in Columbia, South Carolina earned him the "Tile Guy," title. Even after two successful kidney transplants, he lived a positive and grateful life, enjoying both the Reds and Cubs baseball teams as well as Notre Dame and South Carolina College Football. All the while never forgetting his Chicago Bears loyalty. Larry also managed to find solace in adult beverages and fishing with friends. His witty sense of humor, loyalty and true concern for others earned him best friend status to all.

Larry is survived by his children, Blaze (Amanda Heider) Shaffer and Kaley (Nate Riggs) Shaffer; grandson, Oakley Riggs; siblings, Richard Shaffer, Jerry Shaffer, Robert (Linda) Shaffer, Connie Dipert and LuAnn Shaffer as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Galen "Rex" and Frances M. (Breackevelt) Shaffer and brother-in-law, Denis Dipert.

We will have a gathering of friends and family to celebrate Larry on Sunday, February 1st, from 1-4PM at Olivas Restaurant, 327 Union St, Mishawaka, IN 46544. Hope you can attend for a commemorative toast and luncheon in Larry's memory.
