Larry Sillaman Obituary

Larry Noble Sillaman went home to be with the Lord on September 11, 2025 after a valiant and courageous battle with lung cancer. Born June 15th, 1942 in McKeesport, Pa to Harry Sillaman Jr and Dorothy Noble Sillaman, he was the eldest of four children; the others being Sharon (Fedorka), Randy (Sillaman) and Brenda (Fasekas). He was a graduate of McKeesport Tech High and played football there at Shaw Avenue. He began his electrical career at Jones Electric in Charleroi, Pa and went on to a 33-year career in IBEW Local 5, retiring as a journeyman electrician from the University of Pittsburgh in 2006. He served active duty as a machinist mate in the Navy 1965-1967 on aircraft carrier USS WASP CVS 18 picking up most of the Gemini space capsules in the Caribbean. Larry was a man of many, many talents, and never wasted time or opportunity to help others or to build and create something, anything. He was a model railroad enthusiast with an eye and heart for creativity, beauty and precision. His displays were breathtaking and a delight to many. He loved antique cars, especially his 1958 red chevy impala which he completely restored. He shared his humor and creativity through a series of cartoon strips and, most recently, created a storyboard. There was nothing that Larry could not fix or build. He completely remodeled 2 homes, built decks and sheds for friends and neighbors, and he could fix (and did) just about anything anyone asked him to fix. And he fixed it well. Larry was known for his high personal standards and never left any job, great or small, with a problem to be fixed by someone else. Larry also loved to imitate singers, especially Elvis Presley and Louis Armstrong. But most of all, Larry loved the quieter things of life – a good meal, walking in the woods, reading, and spending time with friends and his wife. He loved to learn, having an insatiable curiosity. He will be remembered for his kind and generous heart, his absolute faithful devotion to anything and anyone he loved, and his remarkable gentle spirit that made him many life-long friends. He was a man of God, loved Jesus, and was an incredible testimony of strength in adversity during his battle with cancer. He gave it all to the Lord and strove to honor Him above all and now enjoys the blessings and fullness of joy in the presence of his Savior. Larry will be greatly missed. He leaves behind his beloved wife and soulmate of 43 years, Jain McAuley Sillaman, sister Brenda Fasekas (Glen), brother Randy Sillaman (Carol), daughter April Hemphill, grandchildren Serafina and Joey, as well as nieces, a nephew, cousins, and numerous friends – far and near - that were always on his heart and a source of encouragement and joy to him always. A visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with funeral services beginning at 11:00 AM in the Beyers Funeral Home Chapel, 1123 W. Main St Leesburg, FL 34748 with interment to follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. Arrangements entrusted to Beyers Funeral Home of Leesburg, Florida.
