Larry Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home on Jan. 9, 2026.
Larry Smith went to be with our Lord on December 24, 2025. Larry was born in Staunton, Virginia on August 9, 1946, to John Franklin Smith and Dorothy Lunsford Smith. Larry attended Robert E Lee High School, where he was a three-year letterman in football, basketball, and baseball. He played on the State Champion Football Team and was later inducted into the Lee High HALL OF FAME.
Larry was proud to attend Virginia Military Institute on a football scholarship. Upon graduating, he was commissioned as a 2LT in the Army and later became a Special Forces Officer.
Larry moved to Corpus Christi, Texas learning the jewelry trade. He opened Larilins Jewelers, which was successful in designing and repairing jewelry and watches. He made many good friends during his 40 years in business including
the friendly competition between his beloved Redskins and Cowboy fans. Much of his time was spent coaching his kids, improving their athletic skills and their life skills. The fun times at the beach and the numerous vacations made wonderful memories for all the family. Larry was always an avid animal lover. He was a Delta Society Pet Partner with his dog Skylar. They loved going to the hospitals to visit the kids and the rehabilitation centers to see how people were improving. He always had 2 or 3 dogs because he would foster and then end up adopting.
In 2006 he retired to Boerne, Texas. After clearing his property, he decided he wanted to work. Lucky for Mercedes Benz of Boerne, they got a new Inventory Control Manager. He really enjoyed all the people he worked with and the customers too. Larry retired again after 12 years and traveled for two years in his RV. Enjoying the sights and the people in much of Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Kentucky.
He was always a gregarious, positive person who would talk to anyone about anything. Staying strong and working out was his mantra throughout his life. He believed that God had a plan for him and would pray every day for that plan to help him be the best person he could be. His love for others is ongoing.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother. He is survived by his wife, Donna Smith, his children, Aaron (Paige) Smith, Josh (Jennifer) Smith, Lance (Kristen) Smith, Jessica (Ed) Sachanowicz, and fourteen grandchildren.
Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 1:00pm at Currey Creek Church, 35 Cascade Caverns Boerne, Texas. Memorial donations may be made to Wildlife-rescue.org, Hill Country Animal League, or Diamond Dachshund Rescue of Texas.
