Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home on Jan. 21, 2026.
John David Flieger, a beloved son, brother, grandson, and friend left this world far too soon. His smile and laughter lit up rooms and touched hearts. John was born in
San Antonio, Texas, on November 20, 2004, and left us on January 18, 2026, at a young 21 years of age.
John lived with passion, always pursuing and mastering the goals he set. As a younger child, he dreamed of becoming a great basketball player and dedicated long hours to honing his skills. He later mastered the art of trampoline flipping, putting in thousands of hours, and becoming an elite self-taught trampoline athlete and gymnast-he landed quadruples, quintuples, and intricate combinations-as he soared high into the air. Connecting with people, whether in-person or in the virtual communities he supported, was his passion. John could walk into any room and be at ease, connecting with others and listening to their stories. He had a heart for those with special needs or who struggled with illnesses, mental and physical, and sought to help people with addictions. He studied at Johnson High School where he was honored with the Claudia Taylor Johnson Award for perseverance and character, and Texas State University, where he achieved the Dean's list for his academics. At Texas State, he pursued a social work degree before he had to leave school to manage his pain. During this time, John pursued his love of food, developing his cooking skills and often preparing gourmet meals for others. John loved traveling and enjoyed vacations around the US and a safari in Africa. In the summer of 2024, he had the opportunity to study in England and travel to Ireland for five weeks, where he made new friends, compared social work and mental health practices in two countries, and experienced new cultures. John's deep connections with his friends and family were hallmarks of his life. He was there for so many and supported them with his radiant love.
John is survived by his parents, Richard Flieger and Kelly Isbell; his brother, Mark Flieger; his sister, Anna Flieger; grandparents David and Julie Flieger, Ed and Beverly Beyster, and Joy MacMaster; aunt and uncle Lauren and Michael Mansell; and a host of extended family members.
The family would like to thank all the educators who took John under their wing to teach and educate him. We would also like to thank all the friends who supported and encouraged John as he walked, ran, and jumped through life. His parents would also like to acknowledge the huge role that his siblings played in his life. He loved you all.
